Alena Sharp Bio

 

dsc_0045Alena was born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. She moved to New Mexico and played on a golf scholarship for New Mexico State University where she also earned a degree in business management. Sharp was an all-American in 2003, her final year of college. She now resides in Arizona during the season, but makes her way home often to visit friends and family. Alena credits her parents as having the most influence on her career. In her free time she enjoys inline skating, watching movies and listening to music.

Alena started playing golf at the age of 10 and was a standout amateur in Canada. She won multiple junior and amateur championships including the 1999 Canadian Junior Championship. Alena turned professional in 2003 playing on the Futures Tour. While on the Futures Tour she won a few Canadian and West Coast tournaments before joining the LPGA Tour in late 2005. During the 2006 season, she carded a career-low of 67 and has finished once in the top-20.

Career

  • In 2008 recorded a season-best tie for 15th at the Corona Championship.
  • In 2008 Carded a season-low 67 in the second round of both the Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic Presented by Kroger and theKapalua LPGA Classic.
  • In 2007, recorded a career-best seventh-place finish at the Honda LPGA Thailand 2007; carded a career-low 63 during thesecond round of the LPGA Corning Classic.
  • In 2006, best finish was a tie for 17th at the Michelob ULTRA Open at Kingsmill.
  • In 2005, competed in 16 events on the Futures Tour, where she recorded three top-10 finishes; returned to the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament, where she tied for 16th to earn exempt status for the 2006 LPGA season.
  • In 2004, won the Canadian PGA Women’s Championship on the BMO Financial Group Canadian Women’s Tour and five tournaments on the West Coast Ladies Golf Tour; posted one top-10 finish on the Futures Tour; tied for 52nd at the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament to earn non-exempt status for the 2005 LPGA season.
